The mocaccino: when cappuccino and cocoa meet

The mocaccino is one of the many variations of coffee that we can find in bars all over the world.

In fact, coffee is one of the most loved drinks in the world: it is so appreciated that many varieties and just as many drinks have been born from the simple beans of this tropical plant.
Not everyone likes to drink pure espresso (even if true connoisseurs taste it strictly without sugar), so bartenders and enthusiasts from all over the world are committed to creating a myriad of coffee-based cocktails and drinks that know how to conquer the most demanding palates. demanding.

The second most loved drink, after coffee, is definitely the cappuccino. The cappuccino has therefore become the basis of many of these imaginative drinks, among which one of the most loved is the mocaccino .

Genesis of the drink

The origins of the mocaccino are not yet certain, but there are several theories concerning the birth of this drink.
Some say it originated in Italy, and was inspired by the " bicerin " of Turin, which has similar ingredients to mocaccino.
Another theory instead claims that the name comes from Mocha , a city in Yemen, but there doesn't seem to be a real reason why this word was chosen.

Mocaccino and Moroccan: similar but not the same

Many coffee lovers drink both mocaccino and marocchino , but not everyone really knows the difference between the two drinks.
The mocaccino is based on cappuccino, cream and chocolate (sometimes with the addition of a dusting of bitter cocoa), while the marocchino traditionally has only coffee, milk cream (not to be confused with cream) and cocoa.
However, both are served in glass glasses , and the mix of cocoa, milk and coffee makes them look very similar.
The chocolate in the mocaccino, for example, is real hot chocolate, and not the bitter cocoa powder that is used in the Moroccan.

Many large international coffee chains have used the mocaccino base to create unusual drinks, using various types of syrups, such as hazelnut or vanilla, or adding white chocolate or spices such as nutmeg or cinnamon.

How to prepare the perfect Mocaccino

Mocaccino is a very simple hot drink to prepare, all you need is the right tools at home and a glass to serve it.
The ingredients are:

  • Espresso
  • Sugar
  • Hot chocolate
  • Whipped milk
  • Whipped Cream
  • Cocoa powder (optional)

Hot chocolate is placed at the base of the glass (it can be obtained by dissolving chocolate in milk, or using a ready-made preparation), and then a sweetened cappuccino is prepared to be poured as a second layer. At this point you can top it all off with plenty of whipped cream, on which you can sprinkle the cocoa. Some people love a sprinkle of cinnamon, but just choose what's closest to your taste.
It must be remembered that the mocaccino must be strictly served in a transparent glass, because in this way you can see the various layers that make it up: the effect is truly spectacular, and lovers of this drink appreciate it a lot.
